Some boards know if the pressure switch is jumped out and will not start or restart.Try when the fan starts and jump out the pressure switch , it should start .
But it sounds like your problem is a loose ground wire , or a loose wire to one of your limits.

Janitrol furnace help
I have a Janitrol GFS105-85 furnace that won't fire consistantly. I can usually get it to go after mucking about with the limit switch...but if the limit switch is the problem shouldn't it fire if I simply conect the 2 leads going into the switch. thanks0 -
pressure switch
Paul I miss read your post please forgive. Best wishes J.Lockard0 -
Paul
I have to go with Pat here, the problem is most likely a loose wire or a bad ground, or the pressure switch. Janitrols are notorious for intermittent glitchs of this type. Just remember, you NEVER jump out a limit to run a furnace (other than diagnostic reasons) they are there for a reason!!!! Double check your venting and your drain for proper slope and function.0 -
Limit
Yea you should be able to jump the limits and start the furnace Paul. Some limits Goodman had (dime sized ones use to fall out of the holder) It could also be that the limit is doing its job =dirty filter, A/C coil, poor venting, defective gasket at the collector box? could all trip the limit just waiting for you to come down and jiggle it. How old
is this thing? Doesn't look like a Goodman model #. Is this some really old Janitrol unit? Sounds like a bad limit. Bypassing the limit just to see if that's the problem is OK and yes, it should fire. But never leave a limit bypassed. We have a burnt up Heil in the back room that came out today. Blower failed, limit either failed or was bypassed. Lucky the whole house didn't burn down, like one did a few years ago when a tech bypassed a limit on a 90.0 -

old?
I have no idea when the furnace was made. It's a old gravity fellow with no blower. I'm having a tech come out on Monday and I'll report back with what the problem was. Thanks for all the posts I really appreciate it. One last thing, give a guy some credit, if a fellow knows where and what a limit switch is,they know better than to hotwire the furnace and let it run with out the limit hooked up.
Thanks again,

furnace is fixed
I had my tech come out and he came to the rapid conclusion that the gas valve was busted. So we replaced a loose connection and I have heat. Thanks again,

sorry
I did service calls on many (read 50+) furnaces that I inherited for service when the Installer died. His tool box must have been nothing but jumper wires because that's all I found. almost everything by-passed. I have had all his installs inspected now that his sales have been tracked. Same thing from other contractors. If it broke,,he jumpered until it ran.
And that was a "pro" ( and I use the word VERY loosely)
So I don't care if you know what or where a limit is. It was sound advice intended to make sure you were aware of a potentially dangerous thing you could do. I am glad you know better tho.
