Biasi Venting

Have any of you guys installed a Biasi B-10 series boiler with a power venter? I was told today by my dist. that the Biasi is a "Category 3) boiler? and that it has to have the Zflex kit, I was wondering if this is true? That a weil or Burnham is a Cat 2 and doesnt require this type of connection, is it because of the low flue temps? that it needs stainless? Anything else to watch for on these boilers?

Thanks,

CC

    As a 3 pass boiler

the exhaust temp is listed at 350 degrees. A balanced flue kit with a Carlin EZ-pro or Riello F5 BF burners have less noise and don't create neg. air pressure problems. A much better set up.

    Yes, but

QHT is recommending a BF5 because you can't use a carlin on a direct vent. Also they don't want me to use the balanced flue, they want me to use separates. The only reason I ask is that There usually are some "Other" options when someone is telling you "This is the ONLY kit you can use" just curious was all.

    Thank you, but

I have that brochure, and I am not confused about what Biasi wants or offers, I just was curious for those out there who have put these boilers in, what their input was on this matter. After all nothing is ever able do be done, until it has been done.

Thank you so much though, I am just uneasy about this "new" boiler, I want to make this one count and not be an expensive learning process. from what I am seeing it is'nt all that different from a Buderus.

What I guess I am wondering is why can't this boiler just be powervented?

    But

Why use an extra appliance?. You CAN use a separate inlet and outlet.

Use a factory designed and tested system. CYA.

    Just make sure

the termination is on the leeward side of the building. follow the offsets for exhaust vent and combustion air intake. It is not a true balanced flue, sealed combustion system, so follow the instructions for the relief damper closely. It will allow ambient intake air.

Down the road, I have seen the new NX Beckett burner, and plans call for true sealed combusion with the B-10 series, SG series. Testing is underway. It is a fine boiler. SG series is similar to Buderus, not so much the B10. SG series is an amazing piece of equipment.

Of course the B10 can be power vented; it's a C.I. boiler,
I didn't know that a C.I. oil fired boiler was a Cat.III piece of equipment. Am I wrong, but I've only seen that applied to Gas equipment.

As I understand it, the only reason Carlin is not being used on the Biasi B10 series boiler for Direct Venting, is the problems with the 60200 controls; which Carlin has assured everyone it has been corrected(version C). But, Twice bitten, ya know.

Set up properly, the DVS4 vent kit will work great.

    Good Luck

    Hmm

I think the for the Carlin burners its the static pressure they can't do on a direct vent. I am going with the DVS4 as recommended by QHT (Biasi's USA Importer) I spoke with Jim Quincy there. And with Mr Boyce on their side, I don't think I will have a problem, After all he lives near me in CT. Think I'll take the shot!! Now on to the primary secondary piping!!! (I cant wait)

    Thanks to all

No reason you can't power vent this unit.

Keep your vent connector short and if if necessary use an insulated vent connector. Z-Flex insulvent, Selkirk Model DS, Dura-vent DSL. All are rated as L-vent and are good for vent connector. I'm a Tjernlund rep. Below 168kbtu I'd recommend a SSII
