Removing section of baseboard heater to install slider....

I presently have about 50 linear feet of hot water/baseboard heating element in my living room. I want to remove about 8 feet of that to install a sliding glass door in the endwall of the house.

I'm wondering if losing 8 out of 50 feet will cause the room to be underheated....

Right now the room is warm--the house is well insulated-- and the section to be removed is at the far end of the room.

Any formulas for how many feet of baseboard heat per sq foot room..???????.............thanks--Ralph

    Heat Loss

Depend on the design ? Need to figure the heat loss of the room , then the heat loss and base board ratio of the rest of the zones heated area . The ratio should be the same for proper comfort . A zone also needs to have a proper supply and flow of heated water for balance....

i'd guess that someone somewhere once did a heatloss calc. this is what determines how much baseboard you need. if things have changed, that is if youve significantly changed the structure (insulation) you may be able to get away with it. or you could do what the rest of us do and move it to the other wall.
