suggestion for a small boiler

I am selecting an oil boiler in the 100-140k btu range for a warm air coil in an airhandler, indirect HW and a zone of baseboard (or another coil) to be added later for an addition we might do. Burnham or WeilMcclain seem to be the top contenders based on local contractors experience. I took note that there seem to be some reports of Burnham V series having leaks. Any comments or experiences would be helpful.

    some of the former...

Burnham V-7's had problems w/ premature leaks, the V-8 has replaced that model.
Also see the post above "Leaking W-M boiler" particularly mph's comment (though it's a single data point).

Every manufacturer has troubles from time to time with some models, the thing to look for is how the mfg stands behind their equipment, also look for an installer who does top notch work, and trust him w/ the brand(s) he prefers -- it is sometimes a Ford vs Chevy thing (though there are the BMW and the Mercedes Benz guys too), the quality of the install can make or break any of them.

Several boiler mfg's hang out here too, if you read the posts for any period of time you'll see them.

    Give the Crown Freeport............

and Mega Stor indirect a serious look. Nicest non-Viessmann oil fired equipment I have used. Another option would be the Energy Kinetics system. It is geared for this appication.

    Quietside

I've seen the new quietside boiler used in this application. However, I'm told they are still in the experimental mode. They boost 80 to 90 per cent effciency's. But you have to use kerosene. Apparently they don't operate correctly on our bad fuel oil. I think they are made in Korea. Has anyone else seen these or have any experiences with them?

    Please

Don't look at that imported Korean junk. Where are you gonna get parts? Manufacturer just has a reseller here in the US. Maybe heating oil still has too much sulphur but it seems to work great in every Beckett, Carlin and Riello. Listen to heatboy. Can't go wrong with a 3 pass CI oil-fired boiler like the Crown Freeport.

Joe, thank you for your post. I was curious to see how they rate in the real world. I agree with you completely. Parts and service are everything especally on cold days and nights like this. Thanks

Buderus is the way to go you can't beet them for ease of service, and my choice for a burner would be a Reillo.
About 80% of my buisness is oil and I have had very few problems over the years, and my customers love the lower service costs.

I've used Burnham LE and had good luck. It's been awhile , but I think it's right in the btu range you stated.
