Many Questions

I've been in the HVAC trade(s) for many years .I have been doing large commercial work for the past 12 years and don't get to talk to many people who know smaller systems anymore. I know there are some brilliant people here , so here goes ....

1) I have a Burnahm V series boiler on a 1 pipe steam system. I was wondering if changing the standard Beckett AFG burner to like an AF2 or a Riello would help me on firing rate ( i.e. oil consumption , yes I have 1 1/2 inch insulation on the pipes and pressure cut-out is low ) ?

2) Do set-back digital thermostats save you anything on residential steam , ( I'm sure I've been involved in this discussion , but drawing a blank now) ?

3) My boiler has a tankless coil. What is the best way to make use of it ? Should I use it in conjunction with a storage tank and circulator ?

4) Automatic vent dampers , are they worth the trouble ? I remember I hated dealing with them sometimes on gas equipment , never installed any on oil , but I have seen oil burner versions of these things.

5) Is there a device for consumers to monitor fuel usage ( I have access to fluid meters , curious if I could go to a supply house and get something with 3/8 flare fittings ready to install) ?

6) If I've forgotten something let me know. I've got pipe insulation everywhere , running low pressure , cleaned boiler this summer , set up burner with an extremely great combustion anny from work ( Bacharach digital job with a printer ). System heats great , no water hammer , etc. Set air vents on all radiators , ( calculated cfm , etc per " Lost Art ". I still hate my fuel bill , lol. Thanks for anything.- Mike

ps : any pump manufacturer other than B&G should file chapter 11.(my signature statement )

Great link on fluid meters , thanks. As to the structure tightness , it's medium w/ r11 r19 respectively. The job I'm working on now is a brand new lab for Medimmune. It's a 3 story building with 7 , 100 percent outside air handling units. The blower motors on these AHU's are each 100 hp. Reheat coils are steam w face bypass assy. Maybe I have lost all respect for structure infiltration , but I still don't trust that squirley looking sob that delivers oil to my house , ROFL.
