Removing air from boiler system

I think i have air in my heating system, i have tried to blead the the pipes and circulate the air out with no luck. The reason I have came to that conclusion is that the return pipe is ice cold, while the pipe after the zone valve is hot, thus no cirulation is taking place. Air could have enough power to hold back the ciculation right??
It is a 2 zone heat, the 2nd zone works fine, the first outgoing is hot but return is ice cold...thermostat is fine., the bleeder is also alright i think, which is why i came to conclusion that it was air.
The problem is when i try to use the purge valve, it doesnt resolve the problem. Are there any tricks to it?

seems like it's more than an air issue.
has anyone meddled with the system that would cause excessive air to enter?

do you have antifreeze in your system? if so, you may be low on pressure, because your feeder is probably shut off. if it's water, when you bleed, are you getting air? or water or both? another thing, how far past the zone valve are you feeling? try feeling 5 to 6 feet away, is it still as hot? if not, your zone valve may be bad, and you were just feeling the heat that was conducted through the metal.0 -
when i hook up the hose to bleed the system, a steady stream of water comes out...although i was able to remove some air using that stem (similiar to those on a car tire) until water came out....the first baseboard in the circuit has some sign of heat, while the last ones are ice cold0 -
