I am looking for a pipe freezing machine to work on boilers with out shutting down the whole system. Have any of you used the Cold Shot from General that uses CO2?

Ridgid makes two models of pipe freezers that work really well. The first will work on copper pipe up to 1.5" and on steel pipe up to 1". It goes for about $2,000. The larger unit, will work on copper up to 2.5" and on steel up to 2". The larger unit is # SF2500R and goes for about $2300. I've seen the larger unit in action.... really nice.

    Freezing

I have the cold shot and it works very well on water lines.I tried it once on a heat line with poor results,I might not have left it on long enough.

One thing I learned is water in the lines can't be moving at all and should be ambiant.

I have used the larger of the two ridgid machines. It works like a champ. Make sure to squirt water around the freeze head to make good contact with the pipe. Also make sure that there is no flow at all in the line. Have seen this work on 160* heating lines, but takes a little while to work. The first time you use this thing it is like diffusing a bomb, wondering if it will work.
