Bad Pressuretrol?
Tom Giedraitis

My steam system pressure is routinely cutting out at about 5psi. I've turned the cut in and differential down as low as they can go (0.5 and 1) but it still gets up to about 5 psi before cut out. Do pressuretrol's go bad or should I be looking for some other problem.

Try a Vaporstat...............
Often the actual working pressure on a pressuretrol is much higher then the lowest setting. A Vaporstat functions better at the settings needed for your steam system. I have had problems with brand new pressuretrols.

Is gauge plugged?
You will not know if your pressuretrol is working properly or not if gauge is not accurate.
Make sure that the gauge is working and port to it is not plugged. I had both problems with a 2 yr old boiler (reading trapped hot air pressure because snubber was plugged, but gauge would also hang, even when removed). A gauge that starts at 2 psi is useless for steam. I now have a metal pressure/vacuum gauge so I can tell that it is properly cycling below 2 psi.0
