Yes.. a welder in Australia had trouble keeping his O2 tank from sliding off a steel roof he was working on...so he tack welded it. What was left of him and the roof was found several HUNDRED yards away.. Already won a Darwin.

    What was he thinking?

Using a lighter to read a gauge on an acetylene bottle. Hmmm, wonder if any Wallies have heard of similar lapses in gray matter.

    Same unfortunate accident...

happened to a young guy from my own village of Lindenhurst, Long Island, recently. He was stationed in Iraq and was using a lighter to check the level on some sort of fuel tank as he was filling it, I believe the story goes. Undergoing extensive surgeries now, he really got burned bad. Local efforts are going on to help his family. Of course, you wonder what he was thinking, but it's really not so humorous when you hear about this type of thing with someone like this.

    Got one!

A fresh, wet-behind-the-ears steam fitter apprentice showed up for work with all the equipment he needed, including a flint striker hanging from his belt.

The first time a torch needed to be lit, he grabbed the torch, cranked on the acetylene and started trying to light the torch. The striker was on his belt, and hanging down on his thigh, and when I caught up to him the gas-spewing unlit torch was pointed toward the striker/his thigh and he was working the striker furiously.

Fortunately, I got there in time before he set his jeans on fire.

Never have your wife pick up a tank of welding gas and put it in the trunk of a car with remote trunk release! That happened around here a while back. Tank leaked slightly and when she "popped" the trunk--blammo!!!! No wife--no car!
