an environmentalist to boot. That guy is whats wrong with this industry. I've been in your position several times before too, it ain't easy, but you did the right thing. Make sure you tell a few people that he threatened you - for the record, ..He won't do anything, but if he gets in your face at the supply house, send him over the counter with an uppercut to the chin....lights out! proper condensate disposal for munchkin

I recently went on a service call for a old steam boiler and noticed a new munchkin bioler in the corner .I figured it was no big deal and went about my work in the corner of my eye i noticed the condensate for the munchkin was draining into the floor well not really the floor but into a hole that was chisled out next to a drip return that went into the floor for the steam boiler ,which i believe was not a great idea since it was draining on the wet return since a sink is 4 ft away. Also it drains right into a pond in front of this home which runs into a spring feed lake which is the water source for the community.iI advised the homeowner to contact the plumber who had installed the unit to put a condensat pump and discharge it int the sink. The plumber contacted our shop and was pissed was i right in my advising the home owner and what is the proper way to dispose of the condensate. Also the intake and exhast where within 3 ft of a corner and window riht above it and 2 entrances with in 6 ft. Also the intake was within 1 ft of a dryer vent do you think the plumber was pissed because he relly didn't follow the venting and condensate disposal properly and some one had alarmed the home owner thanks.PS the plumber started that all the work is right and i don't know what i talkin about really can't wait to meet this tool thanks

    I once had...

a call from a guy (homeowner)who had purchased a condensing oil furnace I was representing. He kinda sorta installed it and let the condensate drain onto his new basement floor. It ran all winter and in the spring he called me to say that the unit was defective. A long drive later, I find what is left of the furnace hanging from its duct work. The bottom pan of the furnace was just gone and the floor was just bright aggregate (stones). The concrete floor had been consumed and the lime based concrete acted as the neutralizer for the acidic condensate. Of course it was everyone elses fault but his own. You did good, IMHO!

    thanks for the encouragement

Thanks for the encouragement i some how thing and know that this isn,t going to do the right thing and my superiors say hushhush i truely don,t care.I may be labled a rat fink but i've been called worse .Whats great is that condensate is going to destroy thatwet return and then i'll sell the guy a new boiler. The one he has is a burnhan pacemaker who knows how old in real bad shape so it wilkl all even out and it that point i'll put a condensate pump on the un trapped condensate line and pump it to the sink thanks

    Give the home owner

a set of instructions for the Munchkin. If he can read he'll see that it is wrong. Then he can fight with the plumber and you can go your own way.

the manual is available at www.htproducts.com

The fact that it was enviromentaly wrong is the main point here and I camned you. We sell a neutalizer # N1100 that will bring the condesate to 7.0 pH and will nto effect the spring. The venting issue is a problem. This will cause recirculation of the exspelled flue gas that get hung up in the corner and starve the Munchkin of oxygen thus increasing the Carbon Monoxide levels and disturbing the normal flame patern and eventually the flame rectifire will get deposits on it and will produce flame a failure and other problems that will no doubt be our classified as our fault. Thanks for your observations and your input is always welcome.

It should be checked each year by measuring the pH exiting it

We have seen them last for three years but this would depend on the aplication that being say a snow melt would product more condensate then the typical in house heating loop. The media in the filter can be lime or marble rocks that neutralize the fluid.
