Purging Air

They make aftermarket couplers called " Spirolink". Why do away with a great circulator because of a broken coupler. I work on large base mounted pumps , and I feel most other pump manufacturers should file chapter 11. B and G OWNS !!! Find a high speed B&G over a 007 if you insist , however series 100's do better on "most" closed loop apps.

Purging Air
I have a very noisy pump on one zone in my 3 zone system. The bad pump is a B&G Series 100. Each zone has its own pump with no zone valves. I assume the problem is worn motor mounts since it has broken a coupler already. I plan on replacing it with a TACO 007. I have been delaying this because of the cold weather for one and my past experience with purging air out of the system after its drained.
What I do is fill the system via the boiler drain. That is backwards from how the auto fill valve does it I know, but seems to get most of the air out doing it that way. After filling the system I turn on the circulator pumps one at a time starting with the longest loop and use the purge valves to bleed off remaining air. Is this a good method or is there an easier way ?0 -

replacing pumps and purging
Good idea to replace with Taco or like pump. Th whole pump costs less than a new bearing assembly for the old 100 and is just as good a pump. We normally purge each zone individually by isolating it and feeding through the supply side by the feeder and purging at the return. Build boiler pressure to 25 lbs and purge with hose into a bucket of water. You'll see and hear the air escaping. Shut off all the zones and open only the one you need to purge to keep air out of the other zones. Repeat the process for each individual zone and it's done.
