Hartford loop piped to low

I have found two problems with my Hartford loop piping.
The loop meets the equalizer 6" below the water line. The manufacturer recommends no less than 2". The fresh water feed is attached on the Hartford loop.(also not recommended) When the boiler is off the water is at the recommended level in the site glass, and fills all the wet returns and drip pipes up to the boilers water line. The water level in the site glass actually rises when the boiler runs. Isn't it supposed to fall some? Also is there to much water in my system?

    hartford loop

The water in the site glass usually rises and falls within an inch when boiler is running. If your boiler is dirty it might surge a little more.Clean the boiler And as long as it is not cycling on and off on low water, everything should be normal.

    Rising waters

When the boiler starts to steam the water contains steam bubbles that make it "bigger" causing the water level to rise. This is normal even in a "clean" boiler. Excessive bouncing of the waterline usually indicates dirt.
