How do you estimate your labor costs on installing a radiant system?

Ie: use an estimating program (if so what kind)
Made up my own program?
Use rule of thumb?
?????????

would be interested in getting some feedback.

Thanks for the input.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!!

    labor costs

Unfortunately, there is only one way to get it right....the school of hard knocks!! This has been discussed here many times and the only real way is to get into one. If you're going to be doing a lot of it, you need to gain experience with your own costs and work speed and job conditions, etc.
A rule of thumb to use......it will take a lot more labor than you think it will, so go heavy with the labor on your first few to be safe and keep a good record of your costs. When you get a few under your belt, it will begin to show a pattern and bidding will become easier. Sorry I can't any more specifics than that, but that's how most of us learned.

    Estimate

    All has it exactly right.

We keep track of time on all our jobs and use the info to update our time estimates for quoting future jobs.I use a self made program to do estimates with different time factors for the different applications.

Just curious why your asking? Your e-mail has a Danfoss address.

    Why I'm asking

Our ZCP panels, amongst other things, are sold on labor savings.

I wan't to do some analysis to see if the story were telling has some merit in the way contractors estimate their jobs.

In other words I'd like to make a fair comparison based on some accepted formula (if there is one).

I didn't want to get into it during the first post because I wasn't trying to plug the product. Just get some background info.

    Thanks for the input.

    Near Boiler piping costs

Hi Bill...We estimate a 2 zone (high temp circuit and DHW tank) to take 16 manhours to fabricate and 2 hrs to wire; 3 zone (high temp + mix valve circuit + DHW tank) takes 30hrs to fabricate, including wiring. This includes strut and hangers.
