Oversized boiler

Boiler. I bought this 100 yr old house withe three apts. Each apt has its own boiler (Steam). The first floor unit has an american standard that is rated for 120,000 btus output. The unit is on the first floor, most of the older rads have been removed and replaced over the years with smallish hot water rads. The house i live in is of a similar
age and it has huge old rads. I have not addad up the radiation load yet. The unit is short cylcing. If it turns out to be oversized is removing the basement insulation one way to deal with this prob?

I don't think that would be a option..could always just open a few windows.Just kidding!

Short cycle, there alot of reason why a boiler will short cycle.Oversize as you mention, tsat, distribution not
    vented properly,pressuretrol not adjusted properly,etc.

Why not..add up the load and add in your pick up factor.
Then alittle more info on the distributin system, like is
it one pipe or two,wet or dry return?

If it turn out the boiler is to big,its properly best to
    installed the right size boiler.
You cant beat the comfort are the fuel saving when all things are done properly.

At the wall they call it getting out of the boiler room.
Here we say tape your nose to the side of your face,so you can see better.

    Happy Holidays!!!!
