What is this RED TUBING? Can someone answer a few questions?

Hi. I'm building a home in Southern VT and the Canadian builder is using this red somewhat flexible tubing to my baseboards on the second floor. Can anyone give me some information on this product or direct me to where I can find some information? Even just what the product is called would be great! Thank in advance. Bill.

    Red tubing

Check for makers printed labels or writing on the tube. Could be anything. We had Rehau brand pex tubing go in on a recent radiant slab project and it was a red outer colour. I think Vanguard pex tubing is also a red outer colour, too. Heat Link also makes a red coloured potable hot water pex tube. Like I said, could be anybody's tube.

    Red Tubing

Bill, Red tubing does not define a manufacurer. You need to read the labeling on the tubing. Then, you can ask about the manufacturer and its application in your case.
    Hope this helps.

This sounds like a product called Kytec manufactured by the IPEX Corp. Depending on the size this product could be orange, blue, green, red, or even yellow. Is it a "barrier pipe" ... meaning ... does it lokk like it has an aluminum foil like layer between the first and second layers?

Wow! You guys are quick and sharp. Sorry about not having more information on the tubing. I'm not in your profession, (Computer Engineer).

I ran over to the house and took a better look at the tubing. I believe the manufacturer is Vanguard, it does say "Made in Canada" and yes, it has the standards markings on it. You guys are great, it is PEX alright! It also says that it is the O2 barrier type of PEX.

Now, is this good or bad for my new house? I know that PolyB is supposed to be "not so good", what about PEX?

Hey, I appreciate all of your help.
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Polybutylene was...

a very good product as a tubing. If it was installed in
accordance with the manufacturers design specefications!
Design and operation temps of below 140 F., oxygen absorbation of less than .001%. Primary intended use was for domestic water piping purposes. The connecting fittings
and poor installation practises and lots of lawyers primarily led to PB's demise. In earlier days we have installed tens of thousands of feet of PB connected to totaly NON-FERROUS systems. We still have almost all of these systems as service customers and for system referrals. We have not encountered 1 problem with the PB

    12 to 15 psi.

PS: Kitec is an excellent prouduct, have been using it for
    6 years.

Okay, yep, it's Vanguard Vanex with the O2 barrier. Sounds like I'm okay and this is a good product. Right?

Thanks guys, we appreciate your help.

    Vanguard pex

Yes this is a fine product and one of the products on my specification "equals list" for large scale commercial radiant slab projects. The tubing ought to be fine, time to make sure the design and control of your system is done well. There are lots of good products, but there are a lot of bad installations that give good products bad reputations (polybutylene as outlined above).
