I have a hot water baseboard system with 4 zones. The unit was serviced and cleaned recently.Lately whena thermostat is turned up the burner ignites and then shuts down, after several seconds it will ignite again and run normally.Sometimes it will shut down twice before it restarts and runs.Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

    restarting

Mel, there are many things that can be going on. You didn't say if this was happening before the service or if it's only one thermostat that does it. If you have mercury bulb stats, it could be a weak spring in the stat that's causing the vial to bounce and create a false signal. If this is something that just started happening since the boiler was serviced, call the heating company back to check it out.
Try and do some troubleshooting by checking the stats thoroughly to isolate a possible bad one. It could also be a faulty or weak relay at the burner

    service

I would call your tech back and tell him the symptoms. If he cant figure it out do not get upset with him. I have been doing plumbing and heating for 10 years now and I still have to call for answers or have another tech from my company walk me thruogh trouble shooting.

    Al

It just started after the servicing and it happens on all thermostats. The after servicing thing could just be a coincidence as we just sarted using the heat, before that it was just hotwater.Actually I was thinking weak relay but as you guys said I think I will call the heating tech and have it checked out. Thanks guys I appreciate the feedback.

yes, this one can be more than one thing. depending on the type of control it can be a lack of flame proving to lockout and then retry or if a simpler system a slow gas valve, now is the time to have it fixed.
