Hammering Pipes

We are in the processing of having an addition put onto our 1914 bungglow. The original house was heated with steam the addition is heated with baseboard hot water. We had to have a new boiler installed which serves both the steam and hot water. Since it was put in we have had two issues.
1. We hear a constant loud hammering at night. Before with the new boiler we had some but it would only happen when the boiler first starter and it was very mild.
2. Temperature has been very hard to control. There are two thermostats. One for the steam and one for the hot water. The boiler will fire at night when we have the temperature set for 62. At this point the temperature in the house is 67. (This is also when the loud hammering will start. It will continue on and off until 5 or 6 am.)

    Hi Angelika,
If possible post some pictuers up so we all can look at the installation. It sounds like your boiler is short cycleing. This means the system comes on for a minute and a half then turns of for two minutes them comes back on again. Hope things work out and maybe someonein the find a contractor lives near you and maybe check out the system for you, Good Luck.
