Tekmar Question

I just installed a Tekmar 510 on a one pipe steam system, with one sensor on the 4th floor of the apartment building, and the thermostat on the 1st floor. My question is about the cycles per hour setting, how long on auto setting should it take to "learn" the proper cycles?, the boiler turned on tonight for about 5 minutes then turned off (thermostat satisfied), and it normally takes about 40 minutes to get to 1 psi to get the pressurtrol to cut out, I was hoping to get it to not short cycle.

Thanks,
Phillip

    New Tekmar thermostat

I don't think that you can get your boiler to stop short cycling simply by using this control.

This control does have a heating cycle adjustment, but that won't stop boiler short cycling. It is meant for another purpsoe. Simply put, it allows you to choose how many times an hour you want your thermostat to start and stop a heating cycle. It will not stop boiler short cycling.

You mention that the boiler used to go stay on for 40 minutes bufore it went off. What control did you have then?

You mention that the boiler now only stays on for 5 minutes. What is turning it off?
Is it the pressuretrol? If so why didn't the pressuretrol turn the boiler off with the old control?
Is it the thermostat? What is the room temperatur at the thermostat and at the second sensor. This control will average the readings and turn off the boiler when that averaged temperature is reached.
