I have a lennox model #G12D282-6 natural gas furnace. (82000btu)
It has a Johnson Control G60QHL-1 pilot control mounted on top of the gas valve.
I have determined that the main gas valve is not opening.
the pilot and main gas valve solenoid coils ohm out ok.
I have checked operation sequence and have power to the main solenoid but it will not open.
Is there a replacement available for this and/or is there a retrofit valve I can use.
thank you,
J Kirchner

Replacement is
G600 LX-1 or you can replace just the valve with a VLV 49A-600R. This will allow you to keep the same configuration you have on the job.
Alternatives would be A Honeywell VR8345 Universal Gas Valve with a S8610U Universal Module replacement. I am pretty sure going with the same Johnson system will be cheaper and easier to install and rewire.0 -
Before you replace any parts,
Get the heat exchanger thoroughly inspected for cracks. I work on these G12 units all the time, and am constantly finding them with failed heat exchangers. If your HX is still sound, then I personally would install a Honeywell Y8600 spark ignition kit, which comes with a new ignition control, gas valve, and wire harness for easy hookup. Otherwise, to save yourself some money, I would replace the spark ignition with a standing pilot gas valve, which is easy to do since the flame sensor on the pilot can be removed and a standard thermocuple screwed in it's place. I personally would stay away from the Johnson controls, as I have had numerous problems with their ignition modules failing.
Just my 2¢ worth,
