boiler scale

Moved into an old home with a single pipe system, US Radiator #37 boiler, installed 1958. Frankly amazed that it is still tight and making heat and doing pretty well at that. Problem is that there is a tremendous amount of scale buildup and I am concerned about overall efficiency. Is there a way to effectively remove the scale? Also, I replaced one Hoffman #75 vent that was stuck open upstairs. After one year the new one sticks open unless I rap it. Could the 2 conditions be related, and is there a way to clean the vent/ Thanks!
