I have an old steam boiler. I installed a new thermostat. All was well for about two weeks, then the relay switch stoppped working. I now have to manually start burner every time. my main question is, do I have to install new relay in pipe going into chimney?

You might, but no one can tell you for sure unless
you are good with a voltage meter. Before you possibly make things worse, get a pro in there,,,its getting cold...Mad Dog

You must have the old primary in the stack deal. It really would be best to get a burner guy in there soon!

Sounds like it may need to be put back in step.
Time to call a pro.

There are many options.......
I haven't seen too many steamers with stack controls on them, You could replace it with a honeywell 8184 primary control ( I think thats the #) mounted on the burner, or there by, just make sure your saftey's are wired in series, lwco, pressuretrol and whatever else0
