I did a favor for a good cust. of mine.I noticed her plastic vent pipe to a furnace was in poor condition.I told her there was a recall a couple of years ago.She contacted the installer he didn't want to help her.So I being a nice guy get involved.I phoned around and found myself registering to be a program contractor. After installing my first power venter and 4'' bvent I realized this program doesn't pay enough. Now I know why nobody is in this plan. This may be a good gig in South Carolina but in the north east I can't buy lunch for 180.00,you know what I mean.Anyway does anyone here belong to this program,I doubt it? Oh I did something stupid a total stranger called because I'm on the LIST now.Old couple bought a Kenmore furnace,Sears and the installer wouldn't help them so nice guy Mike says he'll do it.What a sap I am.Am I a snail or what it took me 4 hours to install this thing with a helper.I took the next job to see if I can bring the time down.I was thinking to charge a fee on top of the free recall installation.Any input will be paid in gold.

been there, done that
Tried that myself many years ago when plex vent went out...signed up for a program to replace it with AL24C stainless...did the first and only two for less than my cost.
None of these programs seem to believe that we should make a profit, and should be nice guys and work for nothing....at least I haven't found one yet.

We are supposedly on the "list" also, but with all the hassles, we decided that if we were called, we would price the job normally, the homeowner would have to pays us that amount, and whatever money they recieved from the program was not our concern.
It was OK when the program started, but now they insist on providing the materials, and as you said, the money just is not in the job. I am sure that there is only so much money to go around. I had one guy DEMAND that I fix his vent because I was on the list. He was straightened out quick fast and in a hurry!

yea
We as contractors did not make the pipe and fittings fail,(luckily my company never istalled any of the plastic vents), but we should loose money to correct the problem. What were they thinking???
It's like I said before, there is just so much money to go around...
