Here's an interesting problem.

In our 42 unit complex we have serious banging pipes. Tech is coming out, but won't be for a week, (backlogged), and its keeping the tenants awake.

Any one have any temporary simple quick fixes until he gets here. (Like lowering the water level, how to do this, or anything else.) If you could make the explanation simple, cause I'm not savvy in this area. I see the water in the glass, there's some sediment on the bottom, and it bounces a bit.

The main banging occurs approx. 20 feet away from boiler.

System:
Steam, 2 pipe system with a Peerless 840,000 Btu input boiler.

If I've missed anything else let me know. Thanks.

  • Ummm

How hot is the return pipe when the banging happens?

  • I'll have to wait until it bangs serious again. I just checked it now, its nice and quite, and is hot. My maint. guy just found a leak and fixed it. No banging now. Maybe that fixed it? We'll see.
