steam vents

I service this old steam boiler (2 pipe) that has a Hoffman #75 vent off from the top directly next to the relif valve. The steam vent has been emmiting steam, all the controls are working properly. Do I just replace this vent or is it relly nessary to have this vent as all the returns are properly vented? My boss says that a Vent rite #35 is the same as a Hoffman #75 and to replace it with it. Something tells me that if I follow his order I will be back to replace it again. HELP! signed,

Vent next to a relief valve?
That's a new one on me, Scott. Do you mean it's installed on the boiler? Or on some odd-loking device in the piping near the boiler? If you can post some pics here we can give you a better answer.

steam vent
It is directly on top of the boiler from a tapping directly next to the tapping for the relif valve. pretty strange to me to. Maybe some type requirement by code 50 years ago THere is no rating plate but I would guess it is well less than 1,000,000 btu's.0 -
That is strange
Never seen one like that! What kind of "2-pipe" system is that? Maybe a Vapor system?
Also, the Vent-Rite #35 is similar to the Hoffman #4A, not the larger #75. It's a pretty small vent.
