Radiant Steam

Ran across this old Weil 2 pipe system with a Republic radiant burner. We use to call these Lincoln log burners. The burner is fired in the photo. The idea was the ceramic logs get red hot and put out a lot of radiant heat which was absorbed by the large combustion chamber. This is a two stage kind of modulating burner. It uses a modified Honeywell 10 series stat to make a special gas pressure regulator start and burn on lo fire until the second set of contacts makes. Then it slooowly ramps up to high fire. The main valve is a V855 with a leather diaphragm. You have to oil the motor annualy. I don't think Honeywell still sells the oil for these valves. I'll bet the pilot assy. on this beauty out weighs a munchie! bob
