Gravity Hot Water
When replacing the boiler on a gravity hot water system is it recommended to install a flow control? Why?

I think....it depends
Some methods of piping would benefit, and on some, I wouldn't bother.
If you use one, it makes it easier to zone it later, or add an indirect.

flow control on gravity
If you're going to leave the system gravity, a flow control will stop that gravity flow and you won't get the heat output. If you convert the system to forced hot water, then yes, install the flow control

Also, depends on boiler type and controls too
I think if you use a very low mass boiler, there is no heat in the boiler to cause overheating during the off cycle. Also, if the boiler constantly maintains temp for things such as DHW production, you defintely need a flow control, unless P/s pipng is used and downward loops.
