Air allowances

With new construction getting tighter and more efficient, do any of you have any rules of thumb for air allowances for (venting) appliances like clothes dryers? We can allow supply air for OUR heating units, but equipment like dryers, Jenn-Air type stoves and the like are drawing air out without any way to replenish it. Does anyone know of just how much air the average clothes dryer consumes? Whole house fans have traditionally given issues, but I am now finding that these other vents are giving those random calls and issues that keep us up at night.
