Paint smell

The heat was recently turned on in the apartment that we moved into last spring, and the radiator gave off a horrible smell. The building manager told me that it is the paint burning off of the radiator, and that it would go away. Is this common? Is this dangerous? I don't think the boiler is the problem, because the rest of the tenants don't seem to be complaining.

The smell should go away after a few weeks...
We had a call just the other day...people with an similar problem. Was that you? The people wanted to know if they should replace the rads or take them out and sandblast them and repaint them.. I told them they could be looking at over $1000.00. ... i think they are gonna wait and see. It should dissipate. Dangerous? I wouldn't get crazy about it. Crack the windows to keep a good exchange of fresh air. Mad Dog
