Glenn, Hope your around, but I'll throw this out to the board.

I'm installing a Burnham IN8 steam boiler,(yes, I'm doing a drop header just to join the club!) and was wondering....Why is there not a large tapping near the top of the boiler for skimming? All the ports near the top of the boiler are 3/4 inch. I'll be putting drains at all strategic locations, but was hoping for a large tapping near the top. (no coil, so the control well and bushing aren't present)

Can I get away with either the top tapping for the gauge glass or the relief valve port? They are both about the same height, but I'd rather not take either one out of the picture while skimming. Any thoughts? Chris

There is a 1" tapping on the right side of the boiler for this purpose. This is located toward the front near the top right side. There will be a knockout on the jaclet panel. This is referred to as "Tapping L" on the tapping chart on page 6 of the I&O manual. There is also a procedure for this on page 66 of the manual under the title 'Cleaning Staem System". Hope this helps.

    Thanks Glenn,

That will fit in nicely with the piping I've laid out. I was looking down the side and thought I saw only 3/4 tappings.

I'm sure Mr. Milne will be posting photos of this one, unfortunately, he came a bit too late for a "before" picture. Thanks again, hope to see you at a class or 2 in the spring. Chris

I'd like that! Say hello to mr. Milne for me.
