They can be notorious ... no doubt. It has to do with the pilot pressure and orifice of the pilot burner I think. Go to an Enerjet distributer and buy an Enerjet thermocouple to have on your truck if you see Enerjets. They are different looking - although they do the same job as any other thermocouple. In a jam any universal t-couple will work.

There was (I believe) a program to replace these "defective" pilot burners with something that would not toast t-couples every 2 years. It was a warrantee program through Enerjet and their distributers. You would get a boiler burner tube with the new style pilot block attached. On a service call you would replace the boiler burner / pilot tube assembey add a t-couple and be done with it. I am not sure if these are still available.

Do yourself a favor... when running into Enerjets, talk about replacing them! Just my opinion...

New to The Wall/question re: Enerjet

    Hello,

I'm a 4th year plumbing apprentice who has a lot to learn about the heating side of the trade.
One of my short-term goals this heating season is to improve my abilities on troubleshooting boilers. I've purchased books from this website and generally read anything I can get my hands on pertaining to heating.
I also read The Wall posts daily to increase my knowledge. I admit that much of what I read here is over my head, but if I can learn even a tidbit of knowledge every day, I'll be a better heating technician for it.
But the greatest teacher is field experience, and I'll be getting quite a bit of it as it gets colder. I'll probably bounce several questions off you folks as I encounter things in the field.
As for my question, several people have told me that Enerjet boilers (they have a yellow colored jacket) are notorious for burning out thermocouples. Why is this?
Also, which other brands of boilers have particular quirks or issues?
Thanks for helping newbies like me!

    Enerjets

    Hello Ken,
I deal with some Enerjets that are oil fired.I had a lot of difficulties getting a good and consistant fire out of them. At this point I have changed out most of them. Good luck, keep learning and have fun!
