Teflon Tape

Good advice, re: not getting Blue Block on your hands or clothes. But... you can't help it. Just walking past an open can of Blue Block will do it. The stuff jumps out of the can (I'd swear it does!) and gets all over you. But if you catch it while it's still soft, rubbing alcohol, denatured alcohol, or even some 100 proof Everclear, will take it right off.

I have a fuel oil tank with a 2 inch fill pipe black pipe, with a small leak at the threads,is teflon tape with pipe dope on the threads good. Or does fuel oil effect the teflon tape, can you use pipe dope with teflon in it. If not what is the proper sealant for this application.thanks tom

Tom, there are plenty of good sealants on the market for this application. One that comes to mind is Rect-O-Seal #5 this does not contain any Teflon in it. another one that is commonly used on gas pipes is a product called Blue Block. I have seen this used on oil piping as well.

If you use the blue block don't get it on your hands or clothes as it takes forever to get off your hands and most likely will never come off your clothes. It's good stuff!

    Fuel oil will dissolve Teflon.

    Good luck

    reminds me

of a discussion among a group of pop-up camper owners. Should you put grease on the hitch ball or not?

After much back-and-forth, one previously silent participant dryly observed "I just take some grease from the container and wipe it on my pants - eliminating the middleman".

I agree with Mark about the grease,, a product we have
been using is made by Loc-tite, it's number is 592. Works
for basically everything, just don't try to take it apart
later without a 4 foot cheater bar. My 2 c
