Look at this boiler!

here is what happened.
This is the boiler we removed from the lady's house that was "in desperate need of an estimate".
Now she has paid to have this boiler serviced for the past 15 years. The oil fired boiler has been in the house since it was built, approximately 40+ years ago.
The boiler was in a slab home, copper tube radiant for the first level two recessed copper convectors for the second floor, and it was nestled under the stairs leading to the second floor.
When the homeowner saw the hole in the bottom of the boiler she went NUTS!
She first called her doctor to schedule blood tests for herself and her children, 5 and 7 years of age.
The she called her lawyer, and after that she called a local news agency.
The lawyer is waiting to hear what the blood tests reveal and a local reporter called her while I was still there and was setting up interviews. They ALL want copies of these photos.
The oil company that has been servicing this equipment leaves a report every time they service the equipment. No where on the report is CO ever mentioned.
I beat the CO drum relentlessly as most of you know. Now it looks like this issue will get some coverage without someone dying.
Any HVAC company that is not doing COMPLETE diagnostics on the equipment they service or install is walking a road to ruin. They are also putting the lives of their customers at risk.
There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY that this situation could have gone unnoticed during even the most routine service, the most recent was in August. The system was "fine" according to the service tech. Well the pictures and the testing prove otherwise.
Our customers depend on us. They have placed their lives in our hands. We owe it to them to be sure they are safe.
