I installed the new water feeder today. I cant believe it took me so long to decide to replace it.simply because I wouldnt entertain the possibility that 2 shut off valves were leaking when closed off. ( they are in series). I took the caps off the checks also they are clean and functional.BUt I still have this air elimanator trap problem.I unscrewed the little brass piece out of the top which is nothing but a hole. I stuck a screw driver into the tapping feels like cast iron to me .I mean there were no obstructions that offered to fall away. What can I do with this thing?Im probably going the vaporstat route,Im running such low pressure IM sure my water is going to come back.I guess im saying I dont see the boiler return trap coming into play any more unless there is a pressure control prob or some body comes along and cranks her up.
Any thoughts? once again thanks to everyone who has takin time and energy to reply

If air doesn't vent thru that hole when the boiler is on
try blowing into it with compressed air. You don't need much pressure, just enough to make sure it's open. If it isn't, take it apart & clean it out.

That
makes sense.Ill do it with nitrogen.Enough pressure something should give.I will start with 10 psig and work up from there. If nothing will move at 100psig.I will take it apart,if I can get it apart.who knows maybe there are f+t trap at the ends of those mains that are bad and that was what was taking it so long to heat. works great with those big air vents on the convectors at the end.sounds like hell on start up. scares the kids in the daycare center.
thanks

I'd take it apart
if it doesn't move at 10 PSIG. Remember that's cast iron, you don't want to overpressurize it.
