CAD Software

Jed,

I'm very glad to hear you liked LoopCAD. Currently the print functionality fits the drawing to the page size specified in the users printer settings. You can also export the drawing to AutoCAD and print or plot to scale from there. We are working on enhancing the native printing options in LoopCAD (to allow the print over multiple pages you noted) and this should be ready by early December.

Thanks,
Brad

Do any of you have experience with CAD software? If so, what is the software name and how do you make use of it?

    Thanks,

    CAD

I really am enjoying my Visio Software. I have a few stencils from Wirsbo and Tekmar that really let me do what I want to do from a design standpoint. I design and quote radiant floor heat systems for my professional contractors. Part of my quote also includes a complete design as it pertains to the mechanical and electrical layout. Most have centered around Injection mixing with multiple zones and so forth.

Lately, I have been getting alot of requests for Geothermal Heatpump as the primary heatsource (with a buffer tank.) I can save these as JPEG's also and print them for my contractor. I think the Architects and Engineers appreciate them as well as they sometimes offer input. Electicians really like the "electrical layout" in that, well, how many electricians do you trust on your jobs?..... I can count a few that I would let wire up my equipment.

I know I have not yet scratched the surface of what some of this software will let me do. My intention is to also take a class on the Visio software and how I might better use it.

That's my 2 cents. I am looking forward to other posts on this thread.

    Regards,

    PR

Mike Miller from Tekmar is brilliant with these types of programs. I hope he posts on this thread. Truly an impressive talent.

I 'm a novice, but look what John (Siggy) Siegenthaler has done with this PREMIUM CAD package. An Oooober Cool website to spend time looking at what some of the best designers are doing with CAD. This link shows some of John's work.

Hope all is well with you :-) Been to the place in Estes Park lately?

    Visio

I've been working with this software since it came out about 10 years ago and I love it.

I've used it for 9 books, thousands of drawings and it still blows me away with how easy it is to use.

Question: How do you get the Wirsbro and Tekmar stencils?

    That's Great, But.....

It doesn't do the full package, like some of the other design softwares do. Like Visio. Yes, it's nice to be able to do a tubing layout, but that's only 1/3 the design presentation. Why use a one dimensional program, when others have it all?

    Specialized CAD Tools

    Hi Jed,

You're right that LoopCAD is focused on the floorplan drawing and the loop layout drawing. If you need a CAD software to do other types of drawings, then you'd need to look for a more generic software. However, if you want to do loop layout drawings in a fraction of the time required by either AutoCAD or Visio, then LoopCAD is the tool to use. It is geared specifically for this job and it automates the process, which is something the generic CAD programs do not do.

    Thanks,
    Brad McCrea

    Loop Cad

    Hi, Brad

Loop Cad is a great software. I had a chance to sample it from the trial version you so graciously provided me. I used it until it timed out. I even used it for a job I sold. The contractor is using it as his roadmap. But, sometimes I need to present a full set, and the layout can be printed in multiple sheets for a full scale drawing(no plotter).

But Loop Cad is a giant step forward.

    Regards,

    Jed
