how about....
Thermopride? Best going...lifetime warranty.0 -
I agree, but my concern that because it'so much less commonly used that parts might be a problem if needed?0 -
furnace
I have used both carrier and armstrong and in my opinion armstong is the better unit. I also have to agree that thermopride is much better than the other two if at all possible thats the way to go. well worth the extra cost.
just my opinion

furnace
stay away from the carrier oil furnace not well made go with armstrong or better yet the thermopride the biggest worry is the burner, go with the burner thats most commonly used in you area beckett, carlin, or reilo the relays and controls are similair on the becketts and carlins the reillo burner has a differant control

Any Thermopride I ever worked on used standard burners, motors and controls. Have they changed from that ???? The service to mail order blower wheels and other special parts was only a couple days; much better than my local Carrier parts house. I put my father in laws in about 15 years back and have never give it more than nozzels and electrodes.0 -
It is top...
of the line...I know some HVCA guys for oil that is the ONLY hot air furnace they install...parts should not be an issue It is the only furnace that has a LIFETIME transferable warranty . I have one in my basement that is about 25 years old worked/s great..I took it out of service only because I wanted HOT water...if you want it it s your for the taking..one catch..i'm in NH. kpc0 -
reillos now an option on thermoprides also on armstong im a firm believer in useing whats easier to fiv and find parts for

Why not use.........
a boiler with an air handler and an indirect heating coil? With this set-up, you could add domestic hot water or base board or panel radiators or, yes, RADIANT! From there, maybe a little ice melting or pool heating! The list is almost endless if you start with a boiler. Reset the air handler coil and increase your comfort 10 fold. Aside from furnaces being cheap, why would you buy one?

New Carrier?
How's the newest Carrier? We have a former Carrier engineer as a tech. He hates Carrier but says the new one made by Depsen (may not be spelled right) is a great product. We put one in Thursday. Stainless steel heat exchanger, looked good for a Carrier product. Normally we use Armstrong but the only small downflow was rear flue. How stupid is that!0 -
not much of a choice!
I wouldn't use either! But stay away from the Carrier. In fact, RUN from the Carrier. I have a customer who has the first new Carrier/Dettson that I know of , installed in '98. The front door has to be held on by zipscrews, all the handles are broken, the blower is noisy, it runs like crap, and the heat exchanger looks kinda bad at this point. Real nice unit, huh? I don't understand the Thermopride comment, most furnaces around this region are Thermopride. Armstrongs are ok, but nothing to write home about.0 -
I agree with HB
If it's feasible for you, consider a boiler/air handler system. We do lots of them. Yes, it is a more costly way to go up front but gives you the option of building a complete heating system over time if you desire. You can start with just the air handler to utilize your ductwork. From there you could add an indirect water heater and make all your domestic hot water at 86-87% efficiency instead of using electric. Around here that's a savings of 40-50$$ per month for a typical family. Then you could add radiators, heated towel bars, radiant floors........... the list goes on limited only by you imagination and budget.
As far as furnaces go, Thermopride is the only way I recommend. Wouldn't touch a Carrier, Armstrong is just kinda ho-hum, but a THermopride is worth every penny. Parts are not a problem. Order it with a Beckett burner and any fuel oil service guy worth his salt can service it. Pretty much all the rest of the furnace is standard off the shelf stuff. I wouldn't go any other way myself.0 -
NEITHER
Only two oil furnaces on the market that are worth putting in and that are gonna last.
Thermopride
