I have done many kithcens, always a challenge. Usually if there is an Island i have the designer figure in spaces on one or both ends of island for a cast iron radiator. They can be hidden fairly well and be incorporated into the design.

kitchen heat
I am re-doing a small house(26x33) on a crawl space. I added a 2nd floor and the whole house is down to bare studs right now.
I plan on installing a Burnham 203 Series 2 natural gas boiler with 2 zones and both being single loops.
The problem I see is the kitchen area. The exterior walls will be all cabinets, pantry, and doors. There will be a island type setup. How do I get some heat in this area of the house? Any good toe kick heaters out there? Other suggestions? I am in mid-north Indiana. The kitchen wall faces to the west and no wind blocks there.0 -
RADIANT!
Go radiant, my boy!!! Perfect application!!! The most comfortable way to heat a room there is! We do it all the time.

ahhh looks like
she/he is going radiant...
Try Slant/Fin for a kicker. I am thinking about adding one to our current home and this looks to be a good one.

Hate Kickers
Radiant is the number one solution but I'd rather do a regular fan convector before a kicker. They have units that look like ductless mini-splits you can mount high on a wall. How about some low profile baseboard that looks like moulding around the island or in the toe kick areas if there's no wall space at all. A low profile radiant wall panel might look good up against a side of the island.0 -
You really need
to do a quick heat loss calc on that room. Only then will you know how much heat you need and what type of emitters will get you there.
Radiant floors would be my first choice, but you may not enough unencumbered floor space to meet the load. The calcs will tell you.
You might supplement the floor heat with radiant ceilings or walls to stay all radiant. Easily done at this point of your construction phase.
I'm not a fan of fans, either. The bang, bang control make the blowing worse, I think.
Do some pencil work, there is always a way to radiant.
