Alum boiler problems due to untreated water

supplied with most boilers will detail the water quality requirements. I'm looking at one right now that is very specific as to pH, hardness, chlorine concentration, etc. The domestic water supply in a lot of areas would not meet those requirements.

Remember that even if the system is initially treated, the addition of raw makeup water can cause damage. Several percent of the volume may have to be made up to replace entrained air that is vented during the first few weeks of operation. Small, undetected leaks are a slow death. Raw water makeup is the primary source of contamination (oxygen, scale) in closed hydronic systems.

    Pictures

Looking for pictures of aluminum boiler problems due to untreated water or worse yet, the wrong treatment. We are collecting a picture gallery of the problems in hydronic systems with no or little water treatment or the wrong treatment. I hear all sorts of stories, but would like to see any pictures you folks may have.

    Appreciate your help in advance.
