Boiler way too big.

Was at customer's house yesterday where contractor installed a boiler 2x more output than needed. I may have asked this before but don't remember the answer. Why can't a couple of burners be removed and their orifices be plugged in a gas boiler?

    burners

not sure but i would think you could do it but i wonder if it would effect the efficiency and warranty. have come across a couple furnaces with the burners plugged.

    i know.........

for a fact that weil-mclain will not let you do it on any of their gas boilers...i tried...they were not very helpful, yes it would void any warranty. your best bet might be to put the boiler on outdoor reset or just replace it... kpc

    Opportunity time...

Could you also fit a very small high efficiency boiler into the space and budget of the homeowner? As a second stage boiler with DHW duty, that 2x2big boiler could more efficiently earn its keep. It also leaves potential for snowmelt and pool heating in the future.
