I was talking to someone about pool heaters i dont know how big the pool is but he said he was going to use a 40 gallon storage tank to heat it i dont know what the desired temp. wants to be but is this even possible with a 40 gallon inderect tank off the boiler and how many days would it take to heat up.

Pool heaters
Usually start at about 250,000 btuh and go up fast from there. A heater that will give you a 2° F. rise per hour would be TWO TIMES the BTUHs of a 1° F rise heater. Can't really guess at sizing it.
You kind of need to know the climate conditions and the gallons of water in the pool.

pool heat
Shawn, we have a system where we heat a 20x40 pool and a spa with a 3 section boiler and two 20 gallon SuperStor pool indirects. The boiler is 100K and takes about three days in April to heat the pool to 80 degrees. The system only burns 330 gallons of oil a season and works great!
Check with Superstor or any other manufacturer. Give them the details and they'll size it up for you. I heat my 15x30 pool with a W/M heat exchanger off a 3 section boiler. You only need BTU punch to bring it up to temp. After that, the demand to maintain in minimal in comparison.

Hi Shawn,
I heat my pool with a 50 gallon, 50,000 btu gas fired water heater tied in series with a Takagi Aquastar 240 direct fired water heater with 165,000 btu input. I feed the hot water into an Everhot heat exchanger coil. The then take the heated water from the exchanger and pump it into my pool return line. The pool is a 16 x 32 inground that has been modified with a set of stairs on one end and the deep end only 41/2'. I believe I'm working with around 12-14,000 gallons.
The system worked great this year in maintaining the pool water to keep the Mrs. happy (82+ from mid May until Labor day). I do keep a solar cover on whenever the pool is not in use.
We do not wish to extend the season on either end of the season so I'm not sure how long it would take to bring a cold pool up to a swimming temperature in April.
I must give recognition to ME and HotRod for they gave me tips to correct what I had originally installed to overcome some minor design flaws.
Hope this helps.0
