gas/oil conversion burners

but a BTU, is a Btu, is a Btu, so all things being equal they can work at the same input level. The trick is flame temperatures and heat transfer, that's where oil excels.

If I was unsure today, I'd buy an oil boiler and put in a gas burner, then I can always go back and forth. The advent of dual-fuel burners in commercial applications has done wonders to prove the superiority of fueloil.

    Any experiences

with boilers rated to use an oil or gas burner? I know a few makers (Biasi, Energy Kinetics) have specs for either an oil or gas burner on their boilers but in general, the 2 types of boilers are seperate product designs. Is there a big loss of efficency using a gas burner and are they more difficult to set up and tune? I would think a boiler designed for an oil flame pattern and heat ouput would not do as well with a gas burner.

Joe, This is just my humble opinion. With the proper knowledge and tools both the Gas and Oil burners should be able to be set up and/or tuned without any difficulty. From an efficiency stand point Fuel Oil does have a higher BTU content than Natural Gas or Propane.

I hope that helps a little.

    well it depends....

on the conversion burner. The midco ones the gas companies install are marginal at best. the riello ones are pretty slick...kpc
