what size was the original radiator in square feet EDR? What size pipes were feeding it? Is this an old gravity system that now has a circulator?

Adding a Radiator
I have a gas, hot water system with a older Weil-McLain boiler and want to install a new radiator in my kitchen. The kitchen was remodeled by a previous owner and a cast iron radiator was removed for space considerations. I can make one of the newer panel radiators (Runtal or Myson) work space-wise. I want to do this myself and I'm looking for some info regarding draining and refilling the system, what fittings to use and any other info I may need to add a radiator.
Thank you,
Mike0 -
Need more info
Thanks for the response! I recently purchased the house and I'm afraid I don't have much info. The house was built in 1924 and I believe the original system was recirculated hot water. It is a two pipe system with 3/4 lines.0 -
That was probably an old gravity system
which will now be running at lower water temperatures since the house has probably had insulation, storm windows etc. added.
Keep the radiator capacities and materials (don't mix cast-iron with steel or copper, they behave very differently) and pipe sizes the same and you should be OK.
