steam / circulator pump?

This is not like a pump filling a tank. The heating circulator pump doesn't have to move the water 10+ ft up the flow pipe to the first floor because the water pressure is perfectly balanced by the water coming down the return pipe. The smallest force, from a pump or convection forces, will start the water moving around the system, like you can turn a well-balanced and lubricated wheel with a tiny push.

The pump just has to be sized to cope with the energy losses due to friction at the required flow-rate.

    steam / circulator pump?

I know you can tap into a steam boiler to run base boards in a basement, but a HO wants to know if I can run base boards in a new extension of his house. My question is can a circultor pump move this water up 10+ ft to the first floor from the basement? I thought hot water systems worked because they were under pressure.

    You can get steam baseboard

from Burnham, Slant/Fin, Weil-McLain and others. Why not heat the addition with steam? This would make a lot of sense, especially if the existing boiler is oversized.
