What I have learned on The Wall.....

Jim Glose posted a very nice thread a bit ago. It had me thinking about what I have also learned by being on The Wall.
I have learned that we are a VERY diverse bunch of craftsman, students, teachers, and tradesmen. Our sum years of experiences are remarkable.
I had the honor of meeting Dan and TLM at Wetstock III in Denver. What a sincere father and family man. Kind of like the dad I want to be to my two chipsters, (and one on the way.)
I have learned a ton about different methods of piping, wiring, and systems design. I used to think that there was only one correct way to do things. That would mean that all other ways are incorrect. What an error in logic on my part.
If I asked 100 tradesmen what Thread compound they used. (also called pipe-dope) I would get at least 30-40 different answers. One swears by it, the other swears at it. Did the manufacturer do R&D, take it to production with the thought that it would fail? No way. You pick something that works for you, and you stick with it.
Some like Steam, some like hot water systems. Some like Variable speed injection, some like 3 & 4 way mixing valves. Cast Iron boiler, Condensing modulating, fin-tube, the list goes on and on. All can work fine within the parameters they were designed around.
I have learned that I do not know as much as I need to know. The more I learn, the more I need to learn. I have had the pleasure of meeting a bunch of you. Corresponded with even more of you. Makes me think there should be a Grand Wetstock where we all come together. (Lincoln,NE would be a great central location by the way!)
I have learned that technology within the Hydronics window is really accelerating up the ole' Bell Curve. Hard to stay in front of it.
I have learned to stop and appreciate what you have all taught me. Thanks.
Regards,
PR
