Mono flow spacing

I have a co-worker who removed a convector in his daughters house and installed 6' of 3/4" baseboard. The original spacing for the mono flow tees is about three feet. Why is the flow not going through the baseboard? The loop has been bled but gets no flow, just as pumping away suggests could happen.

Pumping away also mentions that the tees must be separated but doesn't give the spacing. How far apart should the tees be and would it help to add a mono flow on the supple to go along with the return tee?

Thanks,

Jack

    Monoflos

The tees need to be spaced 6', otherwise you should use 2 Monoflo Tees, but you'll have more pressure drop on the system.

You caught my eye with this one. I Have planned to replace some vintage 1940 in-the-wall fin tube convecters with cast iron baseboard [salvaged 7" high Weil Mclain]. The monoflo spacing on the one accessible basement supply line is about 30 inches. But, The BB length would be about 10 feet. [The room is cold. The absence of insulation wherever there is a rad doesn't help any.]

But, does the existing spacing mean it will not work.? Is that what is being said here, that monoflow spacing MUST be coequal with the length of the rad?? Geez. And I have a nice collection of this iron stuff. Thanks for advice. joe

    Monoflo

Joe, why not just try and run the full supply through the rad without Monoflo tees and put a valve on a bypass in that 30" space? Open the bypass as much as you can while still keeping flow/heat running through the 10' rad. Less pressure loss than putting monoflos on both supply and return for that rad.

Nifty idea! Thanks! I have got to learn how to post diagrams like that.. Your excellent idea would also help to Regulate the iron baseboard if I Overestimate the amount of feet of iron needed. There is this consideration: the valve you posit could never be fullly closed, as the half inch risers i happen to have would severely limit the supply water to downstream rads. But, I LIKE the idea of a globe valve in there, to really urge the water up as needed. It's like an adjustable monoflo tee.

In the meantime, i located Dan's explanation of monoflo on his Q&A section here . He seems to indicate that for UPSTAIRS rads one only needs to separarte the risers about inches. heat wants to go up.

I just took a look at it. I think that is there to serve as a bad layout example.

my copy of How Come? and it is just as you suggested Uni.

    Thanks.
