Buderus people......JohnNY

I'm taking over a job in a home just built for a young celebrity couple in my neighborhood. The engineer spec'd a Buderus 334-73 (? I'm going by memory here) with the 2107 Logamatic. I installed the 242 two-stage card and everything is fine.

Is there anything I should know about programming the Logamatic that isn't obvious.

Another concern I have is that the house may be underradiated. In fact, I'm sure it is. The boiler water temperature is often very high (170+) at 48 outside-air temp and the rads all are getting flow but the rooms are hard to get above 69 when it drops below 40 outside.

In his efforts to correct this condition, the engineer wants to change BF room sensor to simple Honeywell t'stat with Taco relay. I know what you're all thinking, believe me, but no one wants to listen to the plumber. Anyway it's his system. I have to play by the rules.

I've never made this switch. Is it easily done?

    The first question

The first question I would ask him is how thinks this will help. I mean the water temp is already at 170*s so there's not a lot of headroom above it temp-wise. Does he think the stat is going to magically produce higher water temps or make that 300K boiler produce more than it's rating?

Is the radiation adequate? Might be the Btu's are there but the delivery system is not. You would notice this by observing whether the boiler struggles to reach its setpoint or if it hits the target temp with a fairly short burn time. Long burns would indicate that the boiler is fighting to reach it's target (large load) and a short cycle would indicate that it's playing with the small load it's seeing.

Sounds like the BF and the 2107 are doing their job shifting water temps up to meet demand so I don't think there's a problem there. 170* at 40* outdoor is awfully high if the radiation is properly sized.

What have you found out about the way the boiler operates? Does it easily reach its target temp or does it take a long time to do so?
