i have a [1] pipe forced hw heating system in my house with severe overheating on the top floor bedrooms.
we recently insulated the attic floor, ceilings and removed a window and replaced a sliding glass door with a single window reducing our heat loss
i need something better then removing fins, silver foil on fins etc
can i use motorized zone valves in the boiler room where the upstairs and downstairs mains split each wired to its own stat.Presently i have only [1] stat in the living room at the base of the stairs.

    Zoning Upstairs & Downstairs

Do you have separate supply and return lines for both upstairs and downstairs? Or two supply lines and a common return? Click over to the Heating Q & A section for the description of the "Loop Hot-Water Heating" and "Diverter-Tee Hot-Water Heating" (the true "one-pipe" system). If yours is the split loop, or two separate loops, it should be fairly easy to install motorized zone valves and control each loop (zone) from its own thermostat. With the additional insulation you've added, it's easy to see how the upstairs might become quite a bit warmer than when the system was originally installed.
Once again, it is best to have a qualified professional come in to examine the job first-hand and give recommendations as there may be factors you aren't aware of that could complicate the job.
Remember, the most expensive jobs are the ones done wrong.
