Standard swing check vs. flow check

I am installing a hydronic system in a new house with four radiant zones, three HWBB zones and one indirect DHW. I am zoning with circulators off a p/s loop and am wondering if standard swing check valves installed in the risers above the circulator outlets would suffice for flow checks to prevent flow. Has anyone installed systems like this with checks and were there any problems?

I had a lot of noise problems with swing check valves. In high flow systems I had noise problems with spring check valves as well. Pumps with intregal check would be a good way to go in my opinion. There is a check valve on the market called "silent check", I do not know the manufacturer, that works well also.0 -
swing checks
years ago i used swing checks and after several years they begain to stick partially open and of course caused overheating. bob.0 -
flo-control or swing
b.& g. or taco flo-control and you can't go wrong. when you try to cut corners to be cost efficent it usually comes back to haunt you. unless you hate the customer and he deserves an inferior installation.0 -
Joe,
if things i have learned on p/s near boiler piping.(Maybe you already know already, but just in case.)First whatever you do make sure that the supply manifold is sized at the maximum.Second, you also may want to put flo-checks on the return side of each zone in addtion to the supply side. The issue you want to avoid is the primary pump opening the flo-checks of the non-calling zones. If the supply manifild is to small, the pressure may be to high and the flo-checks cant stop it....so if the boiler supply tapping is 2"..pipe it out at 2"....jay0
