Thats what I got A latitude D6000.

I got tired of coming to the office and not being able to use the computer. Or asking someone to look up a number.

Make sure you periodically stick your head out the window to see if the competition is eavesdropping through your WiFi . I've had a Compaq laptop for 3 years and its time for an upgrade too . WiFi is the way to go - did you take the laptop in the toilet with you yet ? Talk about taking care of business ....

    Sure

There are a number of ways to do this.
You can move files using a direct serial to serial connection, parallel to parallel connection, or a 'crossover cable' connection. Sounds more confusing that it really is.

If you have a high-speed ISP connection, and intend to keep the old desktop, the best solution (IMHO) is to get a cable/dsl router, and network them together. That way you can move data back and forth between them, and even share an internet connnection. You also generally get a firewall as part of the deal to keep out the bad guys. For a laptop, consider a wireless router. These setups are cheap now. That way you can roam about your house, and even compute on your backyard.

    Wireless networks..

I have but one thing to say - make sure your wireless connection is secure - very secure! Not so much from competitors but from the teenager next door that is downloading MP3's. Just a hint from a guy that had a T-1 Internet connection since 1993. Not technical enough to know the details (I leave that to my partners) I just know that we have found numerous unprotected wireless network connections in the world. I think what you need to do is to make sure WEP encoding is enabled.
