Munchkin question

I own a two family house in Providence RI. Both units have separate burnham gas steam boilers and gas hot water heaters. I am thinking of making a studio apartment in the large walk up attic. Can the munchkin boiler be installed in a utility closet in this space instead of in the basement? And can you get domestic hot water from the same unit? Also I plan to do baseboard heat.

    Sure, you need get both PVC vent and exhaust piping to the outdoors. 30 gal low boy tanks are made to go under the Munchkin with the boiler on a stand, should be enough for the apt. but not for the whole house. My main concern would be the floor load. You might need to beef up the joists, since you'll have around a 400lbs+ load over a 2 ft sq area. (boiler plus fully loaded indirect HW tank.) You might want to also look at a wall hung boiler to save space and weight. The Munchkin T50 wall hung is available now but hard to find I think. Have you done a heat load? Will 50K BTU be oversized?

    Take a short drive to Warwick, RI that is where the new
    Viessmann building is with show room and all of the boilers they sell are installed and can be run. It is well worth looking at. They could also give you names of a good contractor in your area. Call them 800-288-0667
