I think the oil amount instructions you are referring to are for a new pump. If your pump is not new the oil level in the bearing area only needs to be enough to wet the wicks, or to the bottom of the shaft. The motor bearings are fine with 2 or 3 drops once a heating season, over oiling being worse that non oiling. I would leave the electric motor bearings alone for this year and remove oil from the shaft area until the level is just up to the shaft.

Need a little help bell & gosset circulators I have few ?

Hi, I have a boiler (hot water heat)with a B&G ciculator in the back of it,

1.when I oiled it the first part (pump bearings I think) called for 7/8 to 1 oz of oil, I put in maybe a 1/2 oz if that and it leaked out of the bottom I see where it is coming out there is a little cut out is htere suppose to be a plug there? can I plug it?

    2. the motor bearings call for 6 to 12 drops of oil if I do that the front one will drip oil the back does not, why is that?

3.the label is a little worn how can i tell what size I have? and how long do they last will it let me know it is going bad?

4If it goes bad I have a little vavle on top of a stack on top of my boiler that directs the hot water to the raditors I think some one said if I turn that it will let water go to the raditors if my circulator goes bad is that true? thanks a lot

    Remove oil

See if the oil opening on the pump bearing sit in a little square plate. MARK the plate to pump body with a pen and pry the plate off, an old turkey baster or some such can be used to draw out the excess oil.

    As Dale said

those instructions sound like they are for a new pump/initial filling and 2-4 drops per area per season should do fine.

As to why the front leaks and the back doesn't? The front is probably full or over full.

As to size, if the label is worn I don't know how you would size it.

They last a long time, mine is about 40 yrs old and still going strong. It has had a new bearing assembly installed at some point and undoubtably gone through a few coupler sets. (I just did one this fall.)

If you hear any strange noises coming from the bearing areas or the coupler that is an indication that something is wearing out.

I have no idea on the valve, was this a gravity system that has been converted to a circulating one?

Nice thing about the B&G pumps, they are real easy to rebuild and they last a long time.

Some body said it was a flow control valve and that if my cirulator was bad I could open it up and water will circulate though the system with out the circulator? it comes out of the top of my boiler and there are a bunch of pipes that come out of it and go though out the hoes to raditors, also my extrol tank is tapped into that stack right below the vavle.
